Management of Information Systems

Management of Information Systems is designed to help MBA students understand information technology as a tool for innovation within the organization and across organizational boundaries. Infrastructure technologies and information systems such as data warehousing, enterprise resource planning systems, customer relationship management systems, supply chain management systems, intranets, and business-to-business E-Commerce are among the many covered in the course.

The course will then discuss methodologies and techniques for developing, purchasing, and implementing information systems for improved business processes. The importance of the make-or-buy decision and the steps for identifying, selecting, and implementing packaged software are emphasized.

Finally, a vision and strategic plan for managing the IT infrastructure and best practices for leading an IS organization are discussed. Information security, privacy, ethics and intellectual property are also discussed throughout the course.

Examines existing and emerging information technology within the organization and among organizations. The focal points are infrastructure technologies, the role IT plays in business processes, and manager? role in developing, acquiring and managing information resources.

Grading and General Policies

Grading. Your grade is determined by the following factors: two tests (50%); IT cases (20%); four decision analysis cases using Excel (14%), and one IT paper (16%).
IT cases. The text of each IT study case should be a maximum of 6 double-spaced pages. You should include copies of all tables, diagrams, etc. used in your written presentation.
IT cases and Excel assignments are to be submitted through the email as the attached file on the day they are due. There will be a late penalty assessed of 20% per day that each assignment is late.
