Preparing Future Health Care Providers
One Student at a Time...

in Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry, Pharmacy, Podiatry, and Physician's Assistant programs

All about the EKU Caduceus Club

The Caduceus Club's purpose is to aid the students of Eastern Kentucky University in accomplishing their health career goals. The main focus is prepare them to obtain admission into professional schools (such as medical, dental, optometry, pharmacy, podiatry, physician's assistant and others). Traditionally the club has had many guest speakers to familiarize students with different aspects of the health professions. We would like to continue this tradition and try to involve students in activities that will enhance their chances of reaching their goals. In addition, the club sponsors a book sale each year, takes trips to regional medical schools, organizes practice admissions exams for the professional schools, organizes area professional health-care givers for shadowing experiences for the students, and finally has an awards banquet at the end of the academic year.

The club has a lot to offer potential health career students. This web page is also part of our outreach to the EKU community, and we hope it will be helpful to you. If you would be interested in joining our organization, then click on "To Join..." in the menu at the right. To find out about our activities, then choose "Activities". "Links" will lead you to a great many sites to help you in planning a career and guidelines to gain admission to a school appropriate for you. The "Pre-med Guide" was prepared by one of our students and former Club president, Dawn P. Wierwille, who has subsequently gone on to medical school. The Guide should be an invaluable resource in preparing your application for medical school. There will soon be similar guides for the other pre-health options.
