BIO 271 SYLLABUS

Fall, 2003

Course Title: Advanced Human Anatomy

Course Instructor: Dr. Suzanne Byrd, Cammack 221, phone: 622-1712

E-mail: suzanne.byrd@eku.edu

Required Books:

(1) BIO 271 Lecture Notes and Laboratory Manual

(2) Functional Anatomy of the Back and Limbs, 7th ed. (Hollinshead/Jenkins) OR a comparable Human Anatomy text

Laboratory Photo Website: www.biology.eku.edu/byrd/labphoto.htm

Exams: There will be a total of 7 tests (not including the final) given in this course [4 written exams covering the lecture material and 3 lab exams]. If you miss a test for ANY reason other than a valid university excused absence, then the FINAL will count twice to replace the missed grade. The final can also be used to replace ONE test grade during the course as long as the final grade is higher than the grade to be replaced. The final exam will be comprehensive over ALL lecture and lab material and count as 25% of your grade. Questions regarding the identification of anatomical structures and any pertinent information about these structures that have been covered in either lecture or lab (i.e., origins & insertions, innervations, and actions of muscles) are fair game on either type of test. Since there is significant overlap between the lecture and lab material, it is highly likely that material from the lecture notes will appear on lab exams and vice-versa.

Spelling: One-half credit will be deducted for each incorrectly spelled anatomical term.

Grades: 90 - 100% A

80 - 89% B

70 - 79% C

60 - 69% D

<60 F

DROPPING THE COURSE: The last day to drop this course without receiving a grade is Tuesday, October 14, 2003.
