  This take home assignment is due back at the beginning of the second class.

This assignment is to be completed in addition to the reading that is already assigned and described in the syllabus handed out.  This assignment will require you to gain access to a computer that has Internet capability.   If you do not have that available to you, you may use the computer lab on the second floor of the Combs building, the College of Education computer lab on the fourth floor of the Combs building or any other computer station available to you (the computer lab in the Student Services Building is open 24 hours a day).  There is assistance available in these labs to provide you with help if you should need it.

In addition to the described assignments listed below, your first assignment is to log into the Blackboard Website for this course and to review the site in general.  Please follow instructions given at http://www.studentdocs.eku.edu/email/email.php to activate your EKU Webmail account which is needed to be able to access blackboard.

Task one:

In this first assignment, you will need access to the Counseling and Educational Psychology area website.  This site includes many resources you will need throughout your program including a virtual student handbook and many other resources describing many of the topics of interest to students within this program.  You should use this website as an advising tool and should refer to it whenever you have questions throughout your program.  You get access to this web site by going to www.education.eku.edu/CEL/.  This web address will take you to the home page of the CEL department.  On this page you should click your mouse on the words Counseling and Educational Psychology.  This will take you to the described website homepage which will allow you to scroll through hot buttons for different topics within the counseling area.  Your assignment is to read and review all the information included in this site with special emphasis on the Student Handbook.  Additionally, you are to complete the following tasks:

A.. Find the degree or non-degree program you are in and click on the hot button for it and make a copy of the courses that are listed as required for your program. {If you are not a counseling major, copy either the courses needed for the Mental Health Counseling Program or for the School Counseling Masters.}

B. Go to the program and department orientation areas and find out where the department gets its guidelines for ethics and standards of practice and write this on the top of the copy page that you made in A.

C. Find the information on the web site about students being required to have personal liability insurance and be able to list when you will be required to have this insurance to continue on in the program and write it on the same sheet you wrote the answer to B above.

D. Find, copy and complete the student agreement contract that states that you have accessed this handbook and that you understand the students and the counselor educators {the faculties} responsibilities.  Make two copies of this agreement, one to turn in and one to keep.

E. Review the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about the program section and be ready for a possible Verbal Quiz about the points covered.

F. Put the material above that was to be copied or printed in the order it is listed, staple it together and put your name on the top sheet. (Keep one of the signed copies of the student agreement separate so it can be turned in separately.)

Task two:

In this task you will need to use the internet to gather information about the Kentucky Counseling Association.  To find this site you will need to search the net using the key terms that may be appropriate such as KCA or Kentucky Counseling Association.

A.     When you find the site, print off the Membership application and bring it to class with you.

B.    On a sheet of paper, list the current president of KCA, the approximate number of current KCA members, and the name of the organizations primary publication (it just won an award).  Attach this sheet to what you put together for task one.
