BEFORE you come to class on Monday, June 21, complete the following assignments.

NOTE: These completed assignments will be your "admission ticket" on Monday morning, June 21. Non-completion will deduct a substantial amount of points from your overall course grade.

Bring the texts with you to class on Monday, June 21.

 

1. Reading Assignments:

Read the following books and complete the reading guides.

Fat Land, How Americans Became the Fattest People in the World (2003)

AND

Fast Food Nation (2001)

AND

The Daily Life book from the period that you chose.

2. WebQuest Assignments:

Read the books listed above before completing Part 2 of the of the WebQuest.

 

3. Collect 5 of your favorite family recipes, analyze their nutritional content and bring to class.

4. As you read the newspapers, magazines, news on-line between now and June 21, clip and save news articles that relate food and/or the diet of Americans. Bring these to class.  

5. If you have not taught social studies at the middle or high school level (I'm talking to M.A.T. students),
REVIEW/READ a middle school, high school, or college textbook that covers one of the following areas:

7th Grade - The Ancient World
8th Grade- Colonial and Revolutionary America
High School - American Frontier
High School - 18th Century Europe OR 19th Century Europe

Middle and High School Textbooks are available in the Learning Resource Center at EKU.

I will expect you to know the major events/people of your time period.
