GUIDELINES FOR FIELD NOTEBOOKS
(Bad ink is better than my best memory !!)

Get yourself a notebook (as a general rule of thumb – it should fit in your pocket), and carry it with you ALWAYS.

The field notebook should have enough information that it could be handed to a colleague or supervisor (or you could pick it up yourself a month or two later) and they would have all of the information needed to get to the location and repeat your work.  Some essential components would include:

Date of your visit
Time
Weather
Other members of your team
Generalized place name (Tates Creek, Central, Army Depot etc.)
Specific Location – Description of site/area
What you did?
Observations made (Birds, mammals, insects etc) – If you don’t know the name – that’s OK, write down a description, and Identity it later by consulting a Field Guide.

APART FROM DEVELOPING A NEW HABIT - IT IS ALSO WORTH 25 POINTS
