We, the undersigned EKU community members recognizing the need for
environmental and economic responsibility by institutions of higher education
hereby state our support for, and request immediate action be taken by Eastern
Kentucky University to increase recycling facilities and services on
campus. We find the lack of public
recycling receptacles throughout campus unacceptable and irresponsible. Recycling facilities for all retail beverage
containers sold on campus must be made more available, particularly plastic and
aluminum. Increased receptacles for
paper, the number one waste product at academic institutions, should be made
more available. Further more, we
believe areas in particular need of increased recycling facilities include: 1)
outside Academic buildings as well as 2) in their lobbies, 3) inside and
outside the Powell Building, particularly 4) in the Food Court, and 5) on each
floor of the dormitories.
